AFC Board of Committee’s Statement

AFC Board of Committee’s Statement

To: Members of Accounting & Finance Club, Sunway College Ipoh.
Date: 29th March 2010
From: Adrian Ooi (President of AFC)

Firstly, I would say thank you for your attendance in the 2010 Annual Meeting held at Lecture Theater on 15 March 2010. A new board of committees (please see attachment for listing) has been elected and we take over the office on the same date. I on behalf of Accounting & Finance Club (AFC) would like to thank all of you for the long term support to AFC. Besides, I would like to thank the 2009/2010 Board of Committees for all the hard work they had done for the club.

AFC was initially formed to unite all CAT and ACCA students in Sunway College Ipoh. Later, the club has developed the missions of AFC. The current missions of AFC are:
• Have accounting students play an active role within the organization.
• Create a social connection with fellow accounting students.
• Promote knowledge of accounting profession to accounting student.
• To move towards professionalism & continuous development in the field of Accounting and Finance
• To produce innovative, resourceful and highly competent accountants.

To achieve above missions, the 2010/2011 Board of Committees has plan up the events for coming year (See attachment). Our events mostly focus on networking and socializing events, which mean this only fulfill few missions but not all AFC missions. This is because we believe that ACCA programs provide well training to students to be a professional accountant; however the programs did not give students a pathway to learn the soft skills. We believe soft skills are important to student in future when students are facing the real competitive world. We hope that we can provide students an alternative way to learn soft skills by joining our events.

Annual Dinner
The next coming event is our AFC welcoming and annual dinner which will be held on 9th April 2010 (See attachment for details).
The board has decided to hold the dinner at ICCC. This is because ICCC give us the best deal ad compared to Heritage Hotel, Tower Regency Hotel and Execelsor Hotel. Please see below:

ICCC From RM25.00*
Heritage Hotel From RM38.00
Tower Regency From RM40.00
Hotel Execelsor Hotel From RM40.00

*AFC has decided on RM30.00 + 5% Government Tax package. (See attachment for details)

We expected a minimum 50 members will join us for the dinner. If you were interested but had not purchase the dinner ticket, kindly contact any committee member as soon as possible.

ACCA Exam-June sitting
Due to the June sitting exam are near, we had suggested the college to extend the library operating hours from currently 8.30am to 5.30pm, weekday only to 8.30am to 8.00pm on weekday and 10.00am to 6pm on weekend. We hope the extended hours will commence on 15 April 2010 to 16 June 2010. The request has officially sent to College’s Management.

BBQ Party
Normally we will hold a party after exam. This party is mainly to relax ourselves before the next semester class commence. The date of the party will be decided in the next board’s meeting. Kindly refer to CAT& ACCA notice board for details in future.

Annual Trip
Every year, the club will organize a holiday/trip to a tourist’s place within Malaysia. The purpose of the trip is to create a social connection with fellow accounting students. The date and the location of the holiday trip will be decided in the next board’s meeting. Kindly refer CAT& ACCA’s notice board for details in future.

Extraordinary general meeting (EGM)
The president of the club will call for the first extraordinary general meeting (EGM) in AFC history. The main purpose to call an EGM is to pass the first set of AFC Constitution (rules & regulations of AFC). The main reason for the board to set up the constitution is because AFC does not have any written rules throughout history. The constitution will consist of:

Draft layout of the Constitution.
• Article 1: Name and Purpose
• Article 2: Power/Scopes of AFC
• Article 3: Ordinary membership and member’s fees
• Article 4: Board of Committees structures
• Article 5: Election and election protocol
• Article 6: Power and scopes of board’s members
• Article 7: Impeachment, recall, dismissal, resignation, vacancies and reappointment of Board of Committees
• Article 8: Meetings
• Article 9: Funds management
• Article 10: Amendments and ratification

Besides constitution, a set of By Law will be set up in accordance to fully comply with the new constitution. The By Law will consist of:

• By Laws 1: Duties and responsibilities of executives officers
• By Laws 2: Ad-hoc Committees
• By Laws 3: Standing Committees
  1. Discipline Committee
  2. Executive Council
  3. Non-executive Council (if any)
We hope members will pass the EGM’s agenda and we also hope the new AFC Constitution and By Law will functioning effectively and hence reduce the gray areas and disputes between AFC’s members.

To enable the board to perform well, we need your support from time to time; therefore, we hope you can give us full support to let us complete our jobs and perform our duties. If you have any ideas to improve AFC, kindly advise us accordingly.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Extansion of RLC Operating Hours for June Exam

30th March 2010

Mr. Gobu
Principle of Sunway College Ipoh.
Sunway College Ipoh,
1, Persiaran Sunway City Ipoh 2/2,
Sunway City Ipoh,
31150 Ipoh

Dear Sir,

RE: Request for extension of library operating hours for ACCA’s June 2010 Exam.

With reference to the above; I on behalf of CAT & ACCA students in Sunway College Ipoh would like to request your approval to extend the Resource Learning Centre’s operating hours from currently 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays to:

Weekday (Monday – Friday) : 8.30am to 8.00pm
Weekend (Saturday & Sunday): 10.00am to 6.00pm

The main reason I request for this extension is due to we have only less than 70 days to our ACCA Exam in June and the library can provide us the best environment for us to study. We find it convenient and effective when we study in college’s library. The library’s environment is conducive for students to study.

The board of committees of Accounting and Finance Club believe that with the extended hours, students can focus more on their study and exams’ preparations. Besides, the extended hours will create a good reading culture among students especially for new CAT students. One of the advantages for students study in library is they are able to do group discussion which is more effective than studying alone.

We hope that the extended hours can commence on 15th April 2010 and end on 16th June 2010.

Your early reply is most appreciated.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
